El retrato de la Familia Real que le fue encargado al pintor Antonio López en 1994 ha tardado veinte años en pintarse. El lienzo con las figuras abocetadas había permanecido todo ese tiempo en una estancia del Palacio de Oriente, cubierto con unas sábanas. Esta novela trata de recobrar el mito de Dorian Gray, como un retrato literario paralelo. Puede que haya sido la vida que ha discurrido en la calle durante ese tiempo la que ha trabajado por su cuenta la obra. ¿Qué pudo aparecer en el lienzo cuando se levantaron las sábanas? Junto con la concepción del arte, tal vez, la corrupción política y la degradación de los valores morales, crímenes, bodas y otros bailes, acaecidos en este país durante los últimos veinte años, estarán inscritos en los rostros derruidos y formarán también una parte esencial del paisaje. The portrait of the royal family that was commissioned to painter Antonio López in 1994 has taken 20 years to paint. All this time, the canvas with sketched figures was left in a room of the Royal Palace, covered by sheets. This novel revives the myth of Dorian Gray, like a parallel literary portrait. Can it be that the life that has flowed through the streets during that time was completing the work on its own? What would have appeared on the canvas when they lifted the sheets? Along with the conception of art, maybe, political corruption and the degradation of moral values, crimes, weddings and other dances–all that has taken place in Spain during the last twenty years–will be written in the demolished faces, and will also form an essential part of the landscape.
